Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Okland is looking for a VDC Manager to work in concert with VDC leadership and our preconstruction teams to collaborate with architects, engineers, clients and our trade partners to deliver integrated, collaborative and project specific 3D coordination processes.

The ideal candidate has experience leading or being a significant BIM/VDC contributor to IPD, Design/Build and/or Design Assist projects. Experience working for a vertical construction contractor is considered a huge advantage. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in various software programs including Revit, Navisworks, Procore, BIM 360 and/or similar is required.

This role is highly integrated and collaborative. The ideal candidate excels working collaboratively with design and construction project partners while leveraging technology to create mutually beneficial project outcomes and remarkable experiences for our project partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands the project specific BxP workflows, design partner BIM Alignment strategies and assists VDC leadership in managing successful execution of the project specific BIM/VDC workflows.
  • Under the guidance of VDC Leadership manage the preconstruction coordination process from project conception through construction to meet the project specific BIM/VDC goals.
  • Under the guidance of VDC Leadership
  • develop 3D models for use in design phase building coordination, site/underground coordination, overhead MEP-FP coordination, and integrated self-perform concrete coordination.
  • Develop 3D federated models for integration into design and trade partner
  • Manage project coordination schedule to assure coordination achieves the intended significant project
  • Provide training to Okland field and office teams, design partners and trade partners as needed. Help assure 3D coordination process and outcomes are understood and executed by all project partners.
  • Work with Okland field team to assure coordination outcomes are achieved in the field.
  • Work with Okland surveying team to assure project Trade Partners can execute laser layout in field to match the Coordinated project models.
  • Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as BIM lead and perform services on projects under the direction of VDC Leadership.
  • Manage and facilitate coordination process across trades and
  • Participate in the research, development and execution of new technology implementations.
  • Plan, schedule, and implement project specific BIM trainings.
  • Be involved in the community with local BIM organizations.
  • Track and report to VDC and project leadership on BIM service progress, budget, constraints and schedule/resources.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture or similar is preferred.
  • Engineering Degree focused on Building systems may be considered.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional BIM Coordination experience.
  • Coordination with Construction and Design project partners is preferred.
  • Experience in the commercial construction industry and specifically with BIM software is required.
  • Experience with IPD, Design Assist and/or Design/Build projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Design and Construction teams is strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of design and/or construction processes.
  • Demonstrated strong 2D and 3D graphic skills.
  • Strong understanding of 2D design and construction documents.
  • Ability to read and understand information found in design documents, plans, and specifications required.
  • Experience working with BIM models during 3D Coordination.
  • Experience with construction coordination and specifically integrated construction coordination preferred.
  • Working knowledge of BIM software including Autodesk Revit and Navisworks is required.
  • Understanding of construction processes and trades (e.g., mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Integrated project delivery methodologies.
  • IPD, Design/Build and/or Design Assist.
  • Experience with 3D coordination in the above listed or similar projects is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to listen, learn quickly, problem solve and willingness to adapt as circumstances change is key to success of the candidate.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work efforts to produce results efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to pay attention to and understand the small details of the project is key to candidates' success.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, owners, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Collaborative and integrated mindset will be key to employee's success.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback to architects, engineers, trade partners, etc. to improve the project and strengthen relationships.
  • Ability to listen to and understand opinions, concerns and project specific variables to lead coordination partners to the best project outcomes.
