The Electrical Services in The University Facility Services Department is looking for an Electrician to join our team. The Electrical Shop in UFS is an award winning team that provides a wide variety of Electrical Services to the University of Arizona campus. *This position requires overtime, weekend and holiday work. This position also requires the successful candidate to work on call or standby shifts as part of a rotation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Electrical Construction and Repair:

  • Performs duties as assigned by Lead Electrician and Supervisor.
  • Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment used for locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions.
  • Operates, maintains and trouble shoots facility systems including but not limited to the electrical system and associated components, electrical distribution panels, switch gear, motor controls, generators, automatic transfer switches, lighting, low voltage control systems, transformers and Energy Management Systems.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards and regulations.
  • Installs raceway, pulls wire, and mounts equipment.
  • Trims outlets, light fixtures and other electrical finish work.

Planning:

  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations
  • .Uses electrical formulas to figure out conductor sizes, device and panel sizes, disconnect and electrical load on all types of motors, lights and machines.
  • Plans what materials and tools needed to complete the job.

Other:

  • May perform hot work if qualified and trained with all necessary precautions in place.
  • Assists in training and developing apprentices by providing on the job instruction to basic tasks.
  • Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered and safe work environment and ensures shop equipment is in proper working conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
