Job Summary
This faculty position must be a physical therapist and will begin in August 2024. Our residential faculty role supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in the classroom, lab, online and in clinical on the topic of PTA. May need to serve as Program Director and/or Director of Clinical Education. May also need to perform patient care and supervision of students in our pro-bono physical therapy clinic. This position may require weekends and summer hours.
Applicants must possess the following to be considered for this position:
Currently licensed PT in the state of Arizona (or able to obtain license by August 2024)
Essential Functions
This faculty role supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in lectures, labs, online and in clinical practice in physical therapist assisting. Courses may be delivered online or face to face. Some courses are on weekends and during the summer. Faculty are responsible to develop, review and revise materials and objectives for classes; prepare and grade examinations and quizzes, evaluate knowledge of subject matter taught and monitor students' records. Faculty are also required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops.
Assists with the supervision and coordinates the development and implementation of the PTA program, including accreditation, college, district and other approval processes. Works with residential and adjunct faculty to develop program materials and documents for students to meet clinical competencies and credentialing requirements.
Maintains office hours to assist and advise students; engages in the academic life of the college; coordinates and participates in the completion of required program related reports, including the tracking of program enrollment, completion and student success and assessment plans; collaborates with others in the development of successful marketing strategies to encourage enrollment growth aligning with community hiring needs. Engages in the operational and academic life of the department, college and district by participating in activities, meetings and committees.
The expected start date for this position is August 9, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's degree in the teaching field, or a master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field
OR
A Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years work experience in field to be taught
OR
An Associate's degree, or 64 semester hours and five (5) years work experience in the field to be taught
OR
Five (5) years work experience in the field to be taught
Desired Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience in neurological physical therapy OR Neurological Clinical Specialist
Experience working with neurological patients in inpatient AND outpatient settings.
Three (3) years experience working with PTAs in a clinical setting or education program.
Three (3) years full time or lead instructor teaching experience in the field of physical therapy education at a college, university or technical school in an accredited PT or PTA education program.
One (1) year of clinical instructor or clinical coordination experience with PTAs.
One (1) year of clinical management, program director, or other leadership experience in the PT field or in a PT or PTA accredited education program.
Experience working with a diverse population of students or patients.
Special Working Conditions
May be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
May require some evenings or weekends and summers
Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters
May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
May require lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs
Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense
