Position Description:

The Excel Kids center is designed to provide free, temporary, short-term childcare for the students of the Excel Center until regular childcare is located. The center is available when students are studying on-site or are in class, and will serve children up to age 12. A child may stay at the center for a maximum of 4 hours each day.

The center assists in ensuring the safe and caring management of all the children entrusted to the center. This means monitoring children in the center, serving snacks, and facilitating learning opportunities for the children while in their care. Assists in keeping parents informed of policies and procedures at the center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides care for children, such as setting schedules and routines, grooming, feeding, changing diapers, and cleaning rooms and toys.
  • Develops and encourages age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
  • Maintains a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
  • Facilitates hands-on interactive learning experiences working with children directly.
  • Assists in the registration process of children.
  • Updates and ensures accuracy of student files.
  • Maintains regular communication with parents regarding services, enrollment, scheduling or routine changes, and special events for the children.
  • Assists in achieving short- and long-term goals for the center.
  • Contributes ideas for the development and facilitates the execution of the curriculum and program activities.
  • Participates in regular team meetings.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • High school diploma and/or GED required
  • Continuing education in child development, early childhood education, or related field preferred
  • 1 year of experience in a childcare setting
  • Course work/training in early childhood development a plus
  • Child/infant CPR certified/TB testing or willing to obtain
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, ability to balance multiple tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Have the ability to juggle multiple duties and to resolve conflicts
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google applications (specifically Gmail), Excel, Word and Internet Explorer
  • Ability to pass a background check, Online Arizona Certification Information System (OACIS) check, State Board of Education Disciplinary check, fingerprint clearance card check, and drug screen
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently
