The Flexible Composite Technician Apprentice Position

Are you interested in starting a new career in the composite industry? Robertson is looking for enthusiastic Men and Women for employment building flexible crashworthy and self-sealing fuel cells for the Aerospace and Ground vehicle industries. Previous experience in Composites is a plus however not required. Preferred candidates will have a basic mechanical skillset, good work ethic, and a great attitude. Reliable transportation, ability to show up on time, and willingness to learn are required.

The Position

This is an entry level position, previous experience in Composites is not required. Preferred candidates will have a basic mechanical skillset, good work ethic, and a great attitude. Reliable transportation, ability to show up on time, and willingness to learn are required.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Flexible Composite Technician Apprentice

  • Become trained and proficient while working alongside our team of experienced Flexible Composite Technicians. Skills you will learn include:
  • Reading and interpret shop orders, work instructions, drawings, engineering specifications and standard operating procedures.
  • Weighing, mixing, and application of resins, adhesives and elastomers.
  • Performing layup of patterns
  • Bonding of accessories and materials
  • Performing proper vacuum bagging and leak checks
  • Assembling and disassembling of tooling
  • Spraying of coatings
  • Adherence to Export Control and Technology Control Plan (TCP) as applicable to job function
  • Adherence to Compliance Plan and Employee Policy Manual

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

Flexible Composite Technician Apprentice: High School Diploma or GED. 0+ years of experience. Must be a US citizen.

Professional Qualifications

Required:

  • Forklift certified or have the ability to become forklift certified
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues
  • Mathematical understanding consistent with the educational requirements
  • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, stand and climb. The incumbent is occasionally required to sit, bend, stoop or kneel and lift or carry a maximum of 75 pounds; as well as push or pull a maximum of 200 pounds. The incumbent will regularly work in confined spaces and use negative pressure respirators, hand tools including but not limited to scissors, knives, hand sanders, wrenches, sockets, drills, screwdrivers, spray guns, lay up squeege's, brushers, rollers, rulers, and calipers. The incumbent will occasionally use power tools including but not limited to shapers, router table, drills and motorized trim fixtures.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly exposed to mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to dirty working conditions, heat or cold ranging between 20 and 100 degree ambient conditions, chemical vapors or fumes, dust shavings and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The incumbent is required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) including Latex, Chloroprene or Nitrile gloves, negative pressure respirator, dust mask, safety glasses, protective clothing, goggles, ear plugs, and anti-vibration gloves.

Safety/Security/Environmental

  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Comply with all Safety policies as outlined by the company standards and local, state and federal laws.
  • In accordance with Robertson Fuel Systems' Arizona Drug and Alcohol Policy, this position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
