Job Summary
This position provides student service program support, advisement, and information resource referrals specifically focused on students in the honors program. This position accesses confidential data systems to check grades, review transcripts, assign permissions for enrollment, and enroll students in classes. This position will serve as the Honors Program Advisor who will work collaboratively with other advisors to support students. The Student Services Specialist provides comprehensive support to the Honors Program staff, faculty, and students. This position assists with management of the program's day-to-day operations, including emails, phone calls, chat messages, and walk-in traffic; filing and photocopying; and processing applications as needed. The department expects this position to work independently to complete routine tasks.
Essential Functions
60% Advises honors students and assists honors students with enrolment in honors classes. Advises honors students with regard to the requirements for honors program scholarships and honors program graduation. Assists honors students and prospective honors students regarding program requirements.
15% Collaborates with advisement (including FOI advisors) to ensure smooth enrollment transactions for students and appropriate coursework to make progress toward the chosen degree.
15% Communicates with existing and prospective students through updating events calendar and program website; responding to chat messages, emails, and phone calls; developing and attending virtual and in person information sessions sponsored by college recruitment.
10% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
Experience working as an academic advisor in higher education
Experience working with confidential data/information and knowledge of FERPA rules and requirements
Experience working in a higher education office, specifically in a community college setting
Demonstrated attention to detail and clarity in written communication, such as in cover letter
Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
Special Working Conditions
Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:
Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense
May be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
May require numerous evenings or weekends
May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
