The Role

The Senior Computational Chemist role serves as the digital expert for CMP and p-CMP processes. They will initially focus on aiding the implementation of the lab informatics system and simulation program in Mesa, AZ. Thereafter, will be responsible for supporting and expanding these systems to improve efficiency and enable new capabilities in R&D. A key focus is applying the field of AI/machine learning to the data made available by these projects.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

    Lead efforts to model Chemical-Mechanical Polishing (CMP) phenomena though use of Density Functional Theory (DFT), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Discrete Element Method (DEM) methods.
  • Create and iteratively refine computational models that simulate key phenomena in CMP.
  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate computational results into practical applications and experiments.
  • Ensure the accuracy of computational models through quality assurance checks.
  • Develop and train AI/machine learning models for novel slurry formulations.
  • Write Python scripts for data analysis, modeling, and informatics system automation.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and drive them to completion with a focus on customer service.
  • Communicate complex concepts effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in computational chemistry and CMP technology.
  • Manage individual projects, including setting goals, timelines, and milestones.
  • Stay highly organized and demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Learn quickly and maintain readiness for new challenges.
  • Communicate and work well with other professionals in a team environment.
  • Work independently in lab environment and direct technicians to support project needs.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Chemistry, Computer Science, Material Science, or relevant field with 3 plus years of related experience. An M.S. degree with 7 plus years of related job experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with computational methods including density functional theory (DFT), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and discrete element method (DEM). Experience with opensource solutions preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python and machine learning and data analysis packages such as PyTorch, Pandas, NumPy
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • JMP DOE experience preferred.
  • Experience with the semiconductor industry is preferred.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position that requires candidates to successfully pass a post-offer drug screening prior to employment. One of the essential job functions is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
