POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in EducationOR
Bachelor's degree in non-Education related fields may be acceptable in conjunction with a Master's degree in Education.
AND
A secondary teaching certificate for Grades 6-12 in one (1) or more of the following approved areas: Reading, English Language Arts, Math, Science, History or Physical Education; OR
Adult Education Certificate with minimum one (1) year experienceteaching ages 16 to adult.
Other Requirements
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
Training with the exception of Arizona driver's license to be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; OSHA training; ADP payroll training; PREA training.
Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass an extensive background review.
Our Preferred Candidate has
Two (2) years classroom teaching experience grades 6-12 or G.E.D. adults ages 16 and above
Highly qualified in one or more of the following areas: math, English, economics, social studies, science, history, and/or geography
Reading or Math endorsement
Comprehensive knowledge of Arizona Academic Standards
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certified
Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS) training

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:

Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences; monitor and adjust as required.
Develops lesson plans using AZ Career and College Readiness Standards and instructional materials to meet the needs of each student.
Provides individualized and small group instruction as appropriate to enhance the learning process.
Establish and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
Uses a variety of instructional strategies such as group discussion, student to student discourse, lecture and discovery to meet students' varying needs.
Establish and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve affective learning in the classroom.
Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress, grades, and attendance.
Prepares required reports on student activities.
Identifies students' needs and collaborates with other professional team members in assessing and developing of Individual Student Academic Plans.
Administers and monitors assessments in accordance with school testing program.
Stays current with developments in subject area and methods and makes relevant adjustments to instructional plans and learning activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Education Section.
Travels between jail facilities.
Ensures personal contact with juvenile inmates with disabilities.
Maintains basic knowledge and experience with technology for instructional purposes.
Attends staff meetings, IEP/MET meetings; and conferences/training in order to maintain professional effectiveness.
Maintains classroom management style to ensure jail security regulations are enforced.
Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor.
Working Conditions
Work occurs primarily indoors in an education and detention setting. Work requires entering a secure jail facility and having contact with inmates. Tasks require managing frequent interruptions, time pressures, and high work volumes. Responsibilities require concentration, accuracy, ethical conduct and a professional demeanor.
