Position Highlights | The University of Arizona Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) supports the health and well-being of families in communities with low access to resources to make healthy changes in homes and neighborhoods. From local gardens in the community, to working with children's schools to create healthy environments, SNAP-Ed provides families opportunities to be active and healthy their way. (Funding comes from the Federal Government through Arizona Department of Health Services' AZ Health Zone.) The University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension provides services to 5 communities in Maricopa County. The Community Outreach Professional I position will work in South Phoenix, Central Phoenix, Maryvale and Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) to engage community members and stakeholders to understand the local active living environment, to increase physical activity opportunities, to improve use of current infrastructure and to support municipal planning and policies that improves the built environment. Community engagement is a key part of this position, therefore Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are preferred and a flexible schedule with evenings and weekends is required. This position will require collaboration and coordination with diverse partners such as community members, local leaders, active living advocates, faith leaders and government agencies.
