This position will be full-time, supervised by the Area Programmatic Agent and Regional Specialist for Field Crops IPM and Urban Agriculture (the faculty) to develop and implement priority Extension and applied research programs for both Field Crops IPM and Urban Agriculture and Beginner Farmer Programs (the Programs). The Program Coordinator (Community Outreach Professional I) will plan, coordinate, manage, implement, and evaluate programs in cooperation and under the faculty's supervision. Specific activities may include planting, cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting from the demonstration and research sites, planning and coordinating training events, developing curriculum, teaching, developing Extension publications and other outputs, coordinating and assisting with field demonstrations, identifying program priorities, and evaluating program impacts.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Planting, cultivating, maintaining, sampling and harvesting from the research and demonstration sites.
  • Interacts and maintains liaison with students, faculty, staff, and outside/community agencies in facilitating program objectives.
  • Develops and facilitates workshops, meetings, or conferences; coordinates logistics, scheduling, and participant communications.
  • Coordinate activities of the Programs, recruits program participants, members, and volunteers, organize, develop, and assist in on-farm demonstration tactics and strategies in collaboration with the faculty and other staff.
  • Creatively apply own knowledge, skills, and experience to solve problems, deliver solutions, build collaborations with other agencies and organization for the agriculture community in the state and in collaboration with the faculty and other staff.
  • Identify, prioritize, develop, implement, deliver, coordinate, and evaluate relevant Extension programs based on locally identified needs for clientele and target audiences using diverse methods and media, including, surveys, presentations to colleagues and stakeholders using electronic and print media.
  • Stimulate, lead, and participate in new and existing efforts to secure competitive funds, including grant-writing, budgeting, and reporting with assistance and input from the Program faculty and staff.
  • Manage and assist in preparing reports of all Program efforts in collaboration with the Program faculty and other staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different groups/individuals.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience with arid and semi-arid agriculture production.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, pest management, Horticulture, Ag education, or related discipline., or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University .
