Primary Responsibilities

HDR is currently seeking a Rail Engineer to join our Kansas City, MO office. Primary responsibilities for the Rail PE will be to support rail project managers in development of track and civil plans, specifications, and cost estimates for freight rail and rail transit projects. These projects may be for a variety of main line, industrial, yard, and terminal projects with Class I railroads, shortlines, industrial, and transit clients. Additional duties include: assisting in project layout, developing and checking construction plans, drainage and utilities tasks, calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, and using specialized software including Microstation and InRoads as well as use of Microsoft Office Suite. Candidate must be able to work independently as a project engineer on small projects and assist senior engineers on larger projects as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-office team. All work will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Position may require periodic client visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspection, as needed.



Required Qualifications

* BS in Civil Engineering

* PE license

* 4 years experience in transportation-related civil design

* Demonstrated hands-on experience using Microstation with experience using InRoads or InRail preferred

* Strong interest in railroad design

* An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
