Job Description

McKesson is hiring a Senior Compensation Consultant, we are seeking an accomplished, compensation consultant and thought leader who can provide compensation strategy and advisory guidance to our Senior Executives and Strategic HR Business Partners aligned to our most strategic and high-growth business units. This role is expected to help understand the market segmentation for these high-growth business units, and then develop market competitive compensation design, structure and guidance that differentiates McKesson as an employer of choice across Health Care so we can attract, retain, motivate and develop great talent.

Position Description


The Senior Compensation Consultant will report directly to the VP, Compensation and will interface directly with a client group that includes Senior Executives, Strategic HR Business Partners, and various People Leaders across the enterprise. They will also be part of a Global Compensation COE that includes Compensation Consultants & Analysts that provide strategic and advisory support to each of our business units and functional segments.

Responsible for leveraging diverse experiences, in-depth knowledge of compensation programs, prevalent market practices and data analytics in order to help inform our compensation-related decisions that create a total rewards opportunity for our employees that is both market competitive and part of a compelling Employee Value Proposition. Must have an "Enterprise First" mindset when determining solutions and providing guidance. Partners with our functionally aligned Compensation Analyst team to complete work needed to support each business unit and client group.

Key Responsibilities

Consulting & Advisory

  • Develop deep understanding of each business unit segmentation in order to determine the appropriate compensation strategy and guidance that aligns with the business strategy.

  • Engage, influence, and provide concise guidance and recommendations to various audiences, including Senior Executives, Strategic HR Business Partners, People Leaders and HR Teams.

  • Educate client groups and stakeholders in a way that expands their understanding of our compensation philosophy, principles and programs by leveraging our HCM data analytics and market intelligence.

  • Advise on compensation strategy, programs, and related matters while balancing business acumen, total rewards expertise, and relationship building skills.

Compensation Design & Annual Process

  • Lead our Annual Compensation Review process, Ad Hoc compensation projects, and various other compensation-related initiatives for each client group.

  • Provide thought leadership and guidance to our team of Compensation Analysts and/or other Compensation Consultants across the Global Compensation COE team.

  • Partner in the rollout of enterprise-wide compensation programs; and occasionally participate/lead project teams on compensation-related initiatives.

  • Act as our lead Compensation subject matter expert on various cross-functional HR projects and certain Merger & Acquisition work.

Minimum Requirements

  • Typically requires 10+ years' experience as a Compensation Consultant; or related compensation experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business or Finance; or equivalent experience.

Critical Skills

  • Experience and proven expertise in multiple compensation practice areas (for example, executive pay, broad-based pay, variable/long-term incentive compensation, equity compensation and sales compensation programs).

  • Foundational compensation design expertise and program knowledge in multiple practice areas (for example, benchmarking, job evaluations, career progression, market research, survey benchmarking and performance management).

  • Compensation experience in a large, complex, publicly traded organization.

  • Demonstrated competency and acumen for understanding complex, strategic Business Unit goals and developing appropriate compensation solutions and guidance that best aligns with McKesson's overall HR and people strategy.

  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills with proven capability to communicate findings in a clear and concise manner for various audiences.

  • Technology savvy with Microsoft (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Teams) and Workday HCM.

  • Strong learning and inquisitive skill set.

  • Ability to problem solve and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

  • Strong verbal communication, writing and interpersonal skills along with the ability to form strong cross-functional relationships.

  • Must have a team player mindset, actively take initiative and have a strong work ethic.

  • Demonstrated use of analytical skills and problem solving/critical thinking skills.

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$117,100 - $195,100
