Job/Internship Description

Art Gallery High School Intern

Giertz Gallery at Parkland College is offering internships for Summer/Early Fall 2019. Interns will work approximately 15 hours per week for up to 14 weeks, at a pay rate of $8.25/hour.

Application review will begin immediately until all positions are filled.

The Giertz Gallery at Parkland College Summer Youth Employment Internship is designed to give participants a range of experience in the operation of a contemporary art gallery within an educational institution. The purpose of the internship is to provide high school students with meaningful on-the-job training and experience working in a nonprofit arts organization and educational environment. Through this program, students will develop a deeper comprehension of the work involved in nonprofit arts administration, gain a better understanding of the role of the arts in communities, and develop "real life" business skills that can be put to use in their future careers. Students will also gain exposure to possibilities for a career working in the arts.

Work activities will take place on Parkland College's main campus in Champaign, IL. This includes the art gallery and art storage prep room. Off-campus activities may include visiting the offices of 40 North: Champaign County Arts Council, or assisting with off-campus programming.

All applicants must submit:

  • An online Parkland College employment application
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation. We recommend at least one (1) being from a high school art teacher. Letters of recommendation may be attached to the application or emailed to hr@parkland.edu.
